Concrete polishing is used immediately after grinding with metal segments. Lavina Superabrasive specialists, based on 25 years of experience in surface treatment, have divided the process of polishing with diamond pads into 3 main stages:

  1. Honing (scratches grouting)
  2. Polishing
  3. Finishing polishing

Metal polishing usually leaves scratches on the surface of the concrete, which can be very deep or barely noticeable; however, in order to achieve a high quality concrete polish, careful work must be done to eliminate these scratches.

The process of grouting micro-scratches is called HONING. Usually diamond pads on a copper plastic or a combination base are used. For best results, one should start with 50 grit diamond pads and continue with 100 grit, and sometimes even 200 and 400 grit. Some contractors do HONING with water, but usually work is done on dry with a vacuum cleaner as well.

After the concrete surface has been honiged, one can start polishing. Polishing usually begins with a 100 grit diamond pad, sometimes it still goes down to 50 grit, if the surface after honing still needs additional processing.

Polishing is performed in order to remove the porosity of the surface as much as possible. The weight of the machine matters. It is always better to polish with heavy machines. You can polish with or without water. It is important not to skip the gradations, not to change the sequence of polishing steps.

The final polishing is done on dry only. Grits of diamond pads used: 800 -1800-3500-8000. The diamond finishing pad contains not only micro-diamonds, but also felt to collect dust particles. After a high-quality finish polishing with diamond pads, the surface looks glossy and hard.
